PermaCal

Multipoint dilution and permeation system

The PermaCal has been developed in collaboration with the METAS (Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). The most complex configuration consists in a double stage dilution and permeation system. The device can be available in a portable or rackable casing. The portable version is equipped with a battery and an internal pump with dryer that will provide flow to the permeation oven during the transport. The oven temperature will also be maintained during this phase. To increase the autonomy during the transport, the device can be connected to an external 12V power supply (typically car battery).

A particular attention has been given to the possibility to link all the physical parameter (mass flow controllers, sonic Nozzles, temperature) to the national standards. The PermaCal is the unique device that has a temperature sensor used in the oven that can be extracted and calibrated.

The Oven of the PermaCal has enough place to accept more than 1 permeation tube. A “permeation lift” in the oven makes the change of permeation tube very easy. The permeation chamber is divided in 3 parts to optimize the number of permeation tubes that can be placed in the oven.

The insulation of the oven has been specially designed to reach a temperature stability of 0.015°C. The total uncertainty of the temperature, including the stability and link to the national standard is of 0.03°C.

In order to be used at very low concentration or specially corrosive gases, the critical parts of the device are coated with SilcoNert process.

A touch screen and LCD display make the use of the PermaCal very intuitive and user friendly.

Which LNI Swissgas solution is best suited for calibrating gas analyzers, gas sensors, or gas detectors?

LNI Swissgas offers several calibration solutions depending on the application.

The Sonimix 2106 and Sonimix 7100 generate accurate gas concentrations through dynamic dilution from gas cylinder. While the Permacal generates trace-level concentrations of reactive compounds such as NH₃, HCl, HF, HBr, VOCs, and hydrocarbons from permeation tubes.

Together, these solutions cover a wide range of gas analyzer, sensor, and gas detector calibration applications.

Why use a gas mixer or a permeation system instead of single gas cylinders?

Permeation systems or gas mixer allow users to generate multiple concentration levels on demand from a single source gas cylinder or permeation tube. This reduces the number of calibration cylinders required, lowers operating costs and simplifies logistics.

They also provide exceptional flexibility for multi-point calibrations and linearity checks. Concentration setpoints can be adjusted quickly and accurately across the analyzer’s, sensors’s or detector’s measurement range, making it easy to verify instrument linearity, response, and performance without changing cylinders.

This saves time while improving calibration efficiency, traceability, and repeatability.

Which product is suitable to calibrate an AMC monitoring solution?

The Permacal permeation system provides accurate generation of trace-level concentrations of compounds such as HF, HCl, HBr, NH₃, VOCs, and hydrocarbons. It offers a reliable solution for the calibration and performance verification of AMC monitoring systems in cleanrooms, ensuring accurate contamination monitoring in critical manufacturing environments.

How to calibrate gas analyzers within an air monitoring station?

The Sonimix 6000 (C1 and C2) and Sonimix 3022/3012 are all-in-one multigas calibrators that integrate a gas mixing module, an ozone generator and a zero-air generator in a single compact enclosure.

They provide a complete solution for the calibration of SO₂, O₃, NOx, CO, and hydrocarbon analyzers. By generating zero air internally, these instruments eliminate the need for an external carrier gas supply, simplifying installation and reducing operating costs.

How to get a stable source of Ammonia (NH3) calibration gas?

The permeation system Permacal allows to generate stable and accurate source of Ammonia (NH3) at low ppb and ppm level.

Calibrator or gas mixer: which one should you choose based on your application?

The term “calibrator” is often used when the primary application is the calibration of a gas analyzer or sensor. The term “gas mixer” is more commonly used when the objective is to generate a specific gas mixture.

Generating a gas mixture can serve different purposes, such as supplying an instrument, simulating a process gas, or calibrating an analyzer or sensor. In many cases, a gas mixer and a calibrator are essentially the same device, with the terminology depending mainly on the intended application.

Is it suitable for audit or official regulatory inspection environments?

Yes, all systems can be linked to the national standards.

Does the system require periodic maintenance or frequent recalibration?

The Sonic Nozzle technology provides unmatched stability, resulting in minimal drift and a recommended service interval of two years.

Does the system reduce logistics and gas storage costs?

Yes, our gas mixer helps reduce the number of gas cylinders required. Using a single high-concentration gas cylinder, the gas mixer can generate multiple concentration levels by dilution with a carrier gas.

This reduces the number of cylinders needed, lowers costs, and simplifies the associated logistics and cylinder management.

Can the system operate in continuous mode (24/7)?

Some customer are running our system in their production (24/7), no problem.

Is the system suitable for reactive gases or low concentration ranges?

Yes, thanks to special coatings.

Are gas-contact parts treated to prevent adsorption or contamination?

Yes, we have different type of coating to prevent adsorption/contamination depending of the use gas.

Can it handle high-purity gases without signal degradation?

Yes, coating really help to prevent adsoprtion on the wetted parts which help to avoid contamination.

Does the calibrator generate gases independently or does it dilute certified cylinder gases?

Permeation system are generating trace of gas at ppb level from permeation tubes. Gas mixer are generating mixture from multiple gas cylinder.

Is it possible to integrate a permeation oven for generating unstable standard gases from permeation tubes?

Permeation system can be supply through different products. Simple permeation oven integrated in a gas mixer as separate module or more advanced and modern permeation system like the Permacal.

Can solenoid cylinder switching valves be directly controlled via the software?

Yes, all valves within the system are controlled automatically by the software.

Does the software log all events (flows, cylinder changes, errors) to ensure traceability and audit compliance?

Yes, the log allows to track the operational events.

Is it possible to program automatic multi-point calibration sequences?

Yes, all devices include a sequence mode which allows to build a calibration sequence to automatize a calibration process.

Is an accredited calibration certificate provided for the entire system?

LNI Swissgas is accredited according to ISO/IEC 17025 for flow measurement calibrations. An ISO/IEC 17025 calibration certificate can be supplied with every device.
