On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, we interviewed Laure, part of the LNI Swissgas team for over eight years and backed by a strong chemistry background. Every day, Laure works closely with customers to turn gas generation into real laboratory solutions — supporting performance, reliability, and confidence in analytical processes.

Q1 – What does science mean to you in your daily work?
LP: For me, science is first and foremost a way to understand and improve the world around us. In my daily work at LNI Swissgas, this means listening to scientists and lab professionals, understanding their needs, and providing solutions that help them carry out their analyses. Science requires precision and rigor, but also a lot of curiosity and passion.
Q2 – People often think about instruments, but not about gas. Why is gas generation so important in laboratories?
LP: Instruments are essential in a laboratory, but without high-quality gas, no analysis can take place. Gas is not just a consumable — it is a critical component of analytical performance. Our generators provide pure, stable gas continuously, eliminating interruptions and reducing the risks associated with transporting and storing cylinders.
Some gases cannot be produced on-site, which is why at LNI Swissgas we go beyond generation. Our gas mixers, blenders, and calibrators enable laboratories and industrial environments to optimize consumption, reduce the number of cylinders required, and create precise gas mixtures directly on-site. Supported by our ISO 17025 accredited laboratory, we ensure full traceability to certified standards.

Q3 – You work closely with gas generators every day. What do you appreciate most about them?
LP: What I appreciate most is their reliability and simplicity: they run continuously, quietly, and are easy to use and maintain. Their ergonomic and modern design makes them almost “invisible” in the laboratory, yet their impact is huge: they allow experts in analysis to focus on what they do best, without interruptions or fluctuations in results. For me, it’s not just a product—it’s a true partner in science.
Q4 – What would you say to young women interested in science or engineering?
LP: I would tell them never to hesitate to explore, ask questions, and try new things. Science requires rigor, but it also allows you to follow your passions and create. There are so many different fields, and everyone can find their place. For me, being a scientist means being curious, critical, and brave enough to experiment and make mistakes sometimes. And above all, remember that science is everywhere: you can combine passion with rigorous work, and it can even be fun!
